Set Goals

"Teach your children that striving for nice things is acceptable if they understand the hard work that is necessary to buy the items they want" (Ellis 2). Setting the goal to earn money is perfectly acceptable; however, make sure that you child does not relate their self-worth to material things. Rewarding a child monetarily gives them an understanding of working for want. They will learn that if they want a new/expensive item, their parents aren't going to just hand it to them without cause. To teach kids this you can make them a chart to show how much money they will have to earn on a weekly basis to obtain an item they may want by a particular date. Also, if you want, you can add to their fund for an extra reward.
